Direct service workers play a crucial role in supporting the creation of meaningful lives for many people with disabilities. Health and safety, self-determination and independence, opportunities for growth and skill development, building community connections, are just some of the areas that direct service workers can influence in the lives of the individuals they support. The field of community disability services provides an outstanding opportunity to make valuable contributions in the lives of some of Alberta’s more vulnerable citizens and to build more inclusive communities for all.
The Foundations in Community Disability Studies Program has been designed for direct service workers, who are already working in the field, but do not have a qualified certificate. This unique program, offered in traditional and online distance formats, provides the basic values, knowledge and skills required to be a successful direct service worker.
